Brandan Wright didn’t even have time to settle in after being traded to the Boston Celtics a few weeks ago. The forward is now being dealt to Phoenix Suns.
The Celtics will in return get a future protected draft pick from the Suns. The pick is protected within the first 12 selections of the first round for the next two seasons and then turns into a pair of second-rounders in 2016 and 2017. Additionally, the C’s sent away Wright’s $5 million salary without taking any back.
Wright made his way to Boston in the deal that sent guard Rajon Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks on December 18, 2014.
In eight games with the C’s, Wright averaged 3.3 points per-game and 2.1 rebounds per-game in about 10 minutes per-game.
“I have known Brandan since he entered the NBA in 2007,” Suns president of basketball operations Lon Babby said to ESPN. “He is a person of the highest character who will fit perfectly into our burgeoning Suns culture. We look forward to welcoming him to Phoenix.”
The former first round pick (8th overall) will now suit up for his third team of the 2014-15 season.
This move makes shipping Rondo to the Mavericks back in December a little easier to swallow and moves Boston one step closer to improving the team long term. Boston now has a surplus of first round draft picks to make moves or add young talent to their squad.
