The Boston Celtics continue their wheeling and dealing, this time the C’s swapped backup guards with the Denver Nuggets. Tuesday, the Celtics acquired Nate Robinson in exchange for Jameer Nelson.
Robinson is not expected to be in Boston for long, he is expected to seek a buyout and join a playoff contending team.
Nelson was not a part of the C’s for very long, he was part of the deal that sent Rajon Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks before Christmas.
This is Robinson’s second stint with the Celtics. The 5-foot-9 guard joined the C’s after he was traded along with Marcus Landry by the New York Knicks in exchange for Eddie House, Bill Walker, and JR Giddens.
While with Boston, Robinson averaged 6.9 points, 1.9 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 16.9 minutes in 81 games.
Over his career, the guard has averaged 11.1 points, 3.0 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 22.6 minutes in 607 games with the Celtics, Nuggets, Chicago Bulls, Golden State Warriors, Oklahoma City Thunder and Knicks.
Nelson spent only six games with Boston, scoring 29 points with 33 assists and 17 rebounds. He will now suit up for his third franchise during the 2014-15 season.
In addition to the possible buyout for Robinson, sources say that newly acquired Tayshaun Prince is currently negotiating a buyout with the C’s in hopes to join a playoff contender. The Los Angeles Clippers, Mavericks and Thunder are among the top contenders who could pursue Prince when he becomes a free agent.
UPDATE #1
The Celtics have competed the buyout of Nate Robinson, I'm told, after he was traded from Denver yesterday.
